Pretoria, 22 April 2013: The Montsi brothers’ dream of showcasing their tennis skills on a global stage is a step closer to being realised after a donation of R51 050 was made by MiX Telematics, a leading provider of fleet management, driver safety and vehicle tracking solutions.

“We hope that the funds will go a long way in covering the costs involved in getting the budding champions to where the action will be happening,” says Gert Pretorius, Managing Director of MiX Telematics (Africa Fleet Solutions).

Siphosothando Montsi, 13 years, and Khololwam Montsi, 10, have been selected to represent South Africa overseas in June in various tennis competitions. Siphosothando is one of six players chosen to represent South Africa in England and Scotland, while Khololwam has been chosen to compete in Malaysia.

The aspiring brothers accepted the contribution from MiX Telematics during a handover ceremony at the Curro Private College in Hazeldean, Pretoria, on Monday 22 April.

The brothers won every match they played in the Eastern Cape before moving to Pretoria to enhance their skills, and they are currently ranked within the top five players in their respective age groups.

Their commitment, determination and passion drives the boys to train for four hours a day between their school and social commitments. “We are honoured to be able to support the Montsi brothers, as one of our goals as an organisation is to support community growth by facilitating skills and education development for youth in South Africa,” says Pretorius.

The boys’ parents have made many sacrifices to realise their children’s dreams. Their father, Xolani Montsi, resigned from his job last year at the Provincial Treasury in the Eastern Cape where he was a human resources manager to move to Pretoria and be with the boys, while Phumla, his wife, remains in East London and is now the family breadwinner.

“We encourage South African youth to participate in extra-mural sporting activities, and to reach for their dreams with the same dedication shown by the Montsi brothers. We also commend their parents who have shown full support for their sons on this very important journey,” concludes Pretorius.
