Midrand, 16 July 2013 – MiX Telematics, a leading global provider of fleet management, driver safety and vehicle tracking solutions, announced that a donation of R282,519.00 has been made to Clover Mama Afrika in honour of Mandela Day. The funds will be used to upgrade the facilities over the course of this week, at Mama Esther Nkosi’s orphanage in Nelspruit that cares for over 70 underprivileged children.
The orphanage will be furnished with new mattresses, beds and linen, and much needed equipment will be put in place. Repainting, an overall upgrade of the kitchen and counselling rooms as well as repair work to the ablution facilities are additional changes currently underway.
“We’re teaming up with Clover Mama Afrika to ensure that the premises evolves into a safe and happy place for the children,” says Gert Pretorius, Managing Director of MiX Telematics (Africa Fleet Solutions).
“This initiative has been made possible by MiX Telematics who is funding the entire project. It also includes a food garden course and a progressive hairdressing course for Mama Esther Nkosi over the course of the week,” says Prof. Elain Vlok, head of Clover Mama Afrika.
“We are very proud to be part of this initiative and have been involved with Clover Mama Afrika for many years. I don’t believe that there is any better role model for South Africans than Nelson Mandela, and we trust that our partnership with Clover will further the longevity of Madiba’s legacy,” says Pretorius.
Clover Mama Afrika has touched the lives of thousands of children and elderly members throughout South Africa. The ultimate aim of the initiative is to facilitate sustainability by empowering community caregivers through the provision of much needed skills. Projects are structured in such a way that these skills can then be transferred to others in the surrounding community.
Last year, MiX Telematics assisted another Clover Mama – Mama Selestien Moses from Ashbury – who was recently named Business Woman of the Year at the Clover Smarties Week. Mama Selestien Moses of Khayalethu Care Centre started a catering service around two years ago. From here, her cooking, baking and flower-arranging skills provide an affordable service to her community for functions such as weddings, funerals, christenings and birthday parties. The MiX Telematics contribution was used to assist her with the basics for her community hall and catering service.
“Taking great strides, Mama Selestien Moses has made a huge difference to the Ashbury community. In the same spirit, we’re excited to support Mama Esther Nkosi and look forward to a successful outcome for her and the children over the coming years,” concludes Pretorius.
