MiX Telematics, the global provider of vehicle tracking and fleet management products and services, has joined forces with contract hire and fleet management specialist Euroway to develop an innovative and intelligent fleet management product that features a telematics solution at the heart of every Euroway fleet management contract. Launched at C V Show 2012, Euroway’s expanding FleetSure programme will see all new vehicles that are added to FleetSure from now on are equipped with the MiX Telematics' Fleet Manager solution.
One of the first companies to benefit from this partnership will be fast food retailer Domino’s Pizza Group, which has just placed its total 2012 and 2013 new vehicle order with Euroway. The recently signed contract hire deal with Domino's Pizza Group covers new vehicles for its distribution fleet. The new trucks, due to enter service shortly, will all be covered by the Euroway FleetSure fleet management programme. So pleased are Domino’s with the Euroway deal that they are also retrofitting the remainder of their UK distribution fleet with the MiX telematics system and hence FleetSure offering.

In operation, Fleet Manager will be incorporated into Euroway's FleetSure product to provide the company with a comprehensive monitoring service, enabling it to see how its vehicles are being used and the way in which they are being operated.
"FleetSure is not simply fleet management with telematics added. By partnering with MiX Telematics, we are able to provide our customers with the most complete choice of valuable fleet information available at the touch of a button, whether in the office or on the move, " explains Mark Howell, Sales and Marketing Director for Euroway. "FleetSure customers will benefit from Euroway and MiX Telematics' state-of-the-art technology, enabling them to concentrate on their core business activity rather than the complexity of fleet management. The benefits of working with the MiX technology are that we have been able to raise the bar even higher in terms of the functional capabilities of our fleet management programme."
For example, if a FleetSure fleet management contract has been agreed on the basis that a particular vehicle will be used for long-haul operations only, if the customer diverts the vehicle to, say, urban multi-drop distribution, this could have significant consequences in terms of maintenance costs. Similarly, a poor driving style – repeated over-revving or harsh braking, for example – is also likely to have an impact on the cost of operation.
"From our point-of-view, such factors can have a considerable bearing upon the overall effectiveness of a contract and can be cost saving initiatives for the customer," says Mark Howell. "That's why we need to know how our vehicles are being used and it is in both the customers and our interest to use the intelligence Fleet Manager provides to our mutual advantage.
"We now have remote access to the odometer reading so we will be able to alert customers if their agreed contract mileage is in danger of being exceeded. This in turn will allow the operator to switch vehicles or amend the contract as necessary in order to avoid any mileage charges. Given that nobody wants to end up paying more than they expected on a contract, we perceive this service will be especially well received by our clients.
"As a premium added-value service, we will also be offering to make the information captured by Fleet Manager available to our customers. Here, MiX Telematics will produce the type and style of reports operators require and deliver them via a secure FleetSure portal. This will enable customers, including Domino’s Pizza Group and their total UK distribution fleet, to comprehensively monitor their vehicle and driver performance, identify driver-training needs and assess other cost-saving opportunities without incurring the cost of investing in a telematics system of their own."
